On October 6th, 2008 it was said that one in every four animals out of the 5,487 mammals known to man face extinction. Marine mammals have greater risks with one in every three facing these threats. It took five years to complete this assessment (International Union for Conservation of Nature's Red List of Threatened Species) -1,700 experts and 130 countries participated in this study. A main reason for extinction: HUMANS -pollution -habitat loss -hunting bigger animals such as primates, cats, and whales are more likely to be threatened some of most threatened species are in Asia Due to: -economic growth -rapid human population -79% of Asia's primate species face extinction Worldwide habitat loss-40% .... Humans 17% 5% of species facing extinction have rebounds due to conservation efforts.
